Saturday, November 1st - Ride Moved to Alki
After three exceptionally dry and sunny fall weekends the rain has arrived just in time for a soggy Halloween here in Western Washington. The forecast is for a 50% chance of rain this Saturday and the 10 day forecast is for rain at least through the end of next weekend.
The feedback we have received so far has been cold is ok but no rain so we are canceling the Snoqulmie ride this Saturday and tentatively rescheduling for either the weekend of November 15th and 16th, or the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Watch this site for more information.
For anyone interested in a consolation lunch/beer gathering and a possible Waterfront ride in West Seattle in lieu of the longer Snoqualmie ride, some of us will be meeting at the Alki Tavern (1321 Harbor Ave SW) tomorrow, Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
I’ll upload a map tonight for the Alki location or you can call or email me if you are interested and need more information.
Phil

Puget Sound Region Fall Color Ride 2008 – Saturday, November 1st
This is an invitation to all Puget Sound area Vintage Bicycle enthusiasts to end the season on our annual Fall Color Ride. After a sporadic history that dates back to the mid 1980’s, we have been running this ride for the last five consecutive years on a 12 mile stretch of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail from the trail head on Tokul Road near the Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls to the town of Carnation.
The ride is a one-way downhill run along the King County Parks and Recreation trail which was constructed on the route of an old logging railroad grade. The section of the trail we will be riding begins with a nine mile gentle downhill run through the woods with purpose built bridges crossing several ravines and providing vistas of the valley below. The last 3 miles is a flat section of trail that passes rural farms and ends at Loutsis Park in Carnation. From the park we will ride cross town, about a quarter mile to the Pete’s Bar and Grill (all ages, with microbrews for the aged) for lunch.
The ride begins in the north parking lot of the Salish Lodge. Plan on being there and ready to go by noon with departure scheduled for 12:30. The ride itself takes about two hours to reach the park in Carnation. Expect a leisurely lunch in Carnation after which we will work out the logistics to ferry riders back to the top of the hill to retrieve their cars.
Weather or Not?
Recent studies have shown that 54% of all vintage bicycle collectors and 13% of all Rat Rodders have enough sense to come in out of the rain. For two years running we have lucked into incredible, sunny weather for our ride. During the last week before the ride we will be posting a weather forecast on our website to track the likelihood of decent riding weather on Saturday, Nov 1st. If the forecast is not favorable we reserve the right to reschedule the ride as late as 9am Saturday morning. Be sure to check this site before motoring off to the ride.
General Ride Information:
The trail has a maintained, generally well packed, gravel surface roughly 12 to 15 feet wide. It is ideal for balloon tire bicycles, a bit less so for skinny tires.
The trail is open to hikers, equestrians, and non-motorized transportation.
Please be sure to have your ride essentially adjusted and ready to go before you arrive at the Salish lodge lot.
Access to the highway and services is very limited so if you flat or have other mechanical problems during the ride expect to walk the remainder of the distance.
If you are traveling with a group you can save yourself time after the ride by planning in advance and leaving one vehicle in Carnation and one at the Salish parking lot.
Driving Directions:
Take I-90 to exit #25, Highway-18/Snoqualmie Parkway (about 16 miles from Bellevue). Turn left (north) off the exit and follow Highway-18/Snoqualmie Parkway 3.5 miles through the residential development, Snoqualmie Ridge, until it comes to an end at the traffic light on Railroad Avenue SE. Turn left and proceed 1/4 mile. The Salish Lodge will be on your left and the parking lot is on the right.

Posters Available!
Breaking News Items!
I have repeatedly promised a printed edition of the posters from the LeMay Concours event and the first version is now finished and available for purchase.
2008 LeMay poster, (see right)
I am starting with an edition of 25 sequentially numbered prints of the 2008 poster. They have been printed on a professional canon color ink jet printer and with a framing margin are 28 inches wide by 30 inches tall. 5 pre-event posters were printed to promote the event and this additional printing will be the final printing of this design. The proceeds from this sale will help cover the costs of the 2009 event. (Featuring/Huffman/Shelby/American Racing 1895-1941)
Pricing:
Of the 25 prints 6 have already been pre-sold and two will be given away in a contest running on the CABE. The remaining 17 will be priced at $50.00* per poster or $25.00 to those who have volunteered or displayed at one of the three concours to date. (*plus an additional $6.00 to cover the mailing tube and postage, if required) These prices are good through the end of November or as supply lasts.
Beginning November 30th the price will be $75.00 each for any remaining posters.
To reserve and order your 2008 Concours Poster email me at vbephil@comcast.net
I will be looking into printing editions of the 2006 and 2007 posters following the sale of the 2008 poster. I am also coalescing ideas for our poster for the 2009 event (featuring Huffman/Shelby/American Racing 1895-1942).
The Contest:
To promote our event on the CABE website, I have offered a 2008 LeMay poster free to the 1st and 10th person to PM me and ask for a free poster. Feel free to send me a PM through the CABE http://www.thecabe.com/vbulletin/index.php if you would like to win a poster
And, The Fall Color Ride - 2008
I am talking with a couple of the people from last year’s ride to try to pick a date, we should have one selected by this weekend and I will post it along with other pertinent ride information.
This year I am intending to advertise the ride on both the CABE and the Ratrod bike sites.
Let me know if you have any thoughts regarding the ride
Thanks,
Phil Marshall
